Planning Nature Based Solutions against urban pluvial flooding in heritage cities: A spatial multi criteria approach for the city of Florence (Italy)

نویسندگان

چکیده

City of Florence, central Italy Aiming at defining a nature-based strategy to mitigate pluvial flood risk, two-tiered methodology is proposed. Firstly, the areas prone are identified by spatial multi-criteria analysis that combines five criteria (imperviousness, slope, hydrologic soil groups, density sewer system and social vulnerability) build Pluvial Flood Index (PFI). The PFI validated comparison with historical events in city it used for identification high priority intervention. Then, this information merged urban planning NBS design constraints identify suitable installation. Results allow definition implementation against flooding identifying each hotspot set measures can be implemented solve problem. proposed approach represents flexible assessment technique reproduced other context provide useful support adoption risk management heritage cities. • A index elaborated combining 5 environmental socioeconomic criteria. hotspots Florence identified. feasibility assessed analyzing constraints. applied contexts.

Analyzing the effects of urban development on flooding in the cities (Case study: Birjand City)

It is increasingly recognized that the land-use change, especially urbanization has influenced hydrological attributes intensely. But in most urban designs, flood prediction is considered through type of land use (residential, industrial, and so on) and density. However, experiences show that this method has not been very successful. As a result, the present study aims to investigate and explor...

Comparing modelling techniques for analysing urban pluvial flooding.

Short peak rainfall intensities cause sewer systems to overflow leading to flooding of streets and houses. Due to climate change and densification of urban areas, this is expected to occur more often in the future. Hence, next to their minor (i.e. sewer) system, municipalities have to analyse their major (i.e. surface) system in order to anticipate urban flooding during extreme rainfall. Urban ...

Nature-Based Solutions Accelerating Urban Sustainability Transitions in Cities: Lessons from Dresden, Genk and Stockholm Cities

Nature based solutions are amongst other practices that transition initiatives work with when intervening in their place and change its fabric. Focusing on the actors establishing, driving and scaling these solutions in and across cities, we come to evince that nature-based solutions have transformative social impact since they mediate new social relations and new social configurations contribu...
